The famous Goodwood Festival of Speed will be in celebratory mode this year as it marks a number of automotive and motorsport anniversaries, as well as 20 years of the event itself. Taking place 11th-14th July 2013, this year’s show will be an action-packed extravaganza, complete with a fly-past by the Red Arrows.
The iconic Porsche 911 will celebrate 50 years in action with a daily parade of road and race cars, spanning seven generations. Meanwhile, a selection of Le Mans 24 Hours endurance racers will mark 90 years of the world famous 24-hour race, including both early winning Bentleys to the latest Audis.
McLaren Racing will exhibit 50 years of championship-winning cars, while Lamborghini will exhibit some of the most exotic cars it has produced. The Mini Cooper S and Ford Lotus Cortina also turn 50 this year, and will be present on track and in the Forest Rally Stage area to celebrate the occasion. More rally action will take place to mark 40 years of the World Rally Championship.
The best of the last two decades of Goodwood itself will be celebrated with a wide range of legendary cars, motorcycles, drivers and riders. Over the past 20 years, the Festival of Speed has become the UK’s largest annual automotive exhibition, attracting more than 185,000 visitors in 2012.
Supercars and race cars, including F1 cars, are a mainstay of the show, and increasingly, vehicle manufacturers are also debuting new models, with more than 35 models launched at the festival last year. Additionally, the FoS-TECH technology zone displays the latest environmentally considerate concepts.
The Moving Motor Show is set to return to this year’s festival, following a successful introduction in 2012. This will be presented by the RAC on 11th July and will give consumers and motoring enthusiasts a chance to see the latest models up close, and drive them within the Goodwood Estate, even tackling the renowned Goodwood Hillclimb.
