If you are expanding your business, you need as much information and support as you can have to ensure your success with the least amount of stress.
There are, however, more serious implications than just making sure you have enough desks and chairs. For many employers the most challenging part of taking on new staff is the financial aspect. Not just affording new staff but the accounting side of tax, National Insurance and PAYE.
This is where HMRC is your friend. Not a phrase you may expect to hear every day but, if your business is expanding or you are planning to grow, you need to start considering the challenges of taking on your first or additional members of staff.
For many small business owners HMRC can seem to be a barrier to growth but they now offer remote training and advice for business leaders and owners who are taking on their first staff or expanding with more staff, as well as their standard helplines where trained advisors can answer your more specific or direct questions.
Utilising several social media platforms already, including Twitter and Facebook, they now offer a YouTube channel where HMRC has created a range of video guides for customers including a specific area for new and growing businesses.
Embracing an interactive approach such as this can help employers and individuals who are time-poor during the working day or who have broader queries that can be addressed in this less formal manner.
And, perhaps, it also puts a more approachable face to HMRC, making them just a little less intimidating.
