In support of Volunteers’ Week, 1-7 June, CJAM is celebrating the difference we make to the community at large. There will be tea and cakes all round as we recognise our contribution and thank everyone for their time and effort.
#Ivolunteer
In January two team members, Julie and Courtney formed part of the collection team on behalf of Marie Curie Daffodil appeal in Witham, and in July all the female members of staff will be stepping out for the second year running to raise money for Cancer Research UK in Colchester’s Race for Life. At Christmas, Trudi, Sarah W, Julie and Christine will be arranging the annual Vintage Villagers community lunch.
With her passion for running, Lisa is active in helping arrange Great Cornard Park Run on a regular basis and also organises a free running group and ad hoc coaching for individuals and groups who are beginning the sport. Christine acts as treasurer for her village committee and is giving a hamper at the fete raffle – the proceeds of which will benefit three local groups including Essex Lowland Search and Rescue and a football club.
Personal satisfaction
Sarah G is involved with two Contact the Elderly groups, hosting tea parties at her home and acting as an occasional driver to collect the guests and deliver them to the monthly events. She says: “I love baking and I like to hear the stories that old people have to tell of their lives. It really is a joy to be part of a like-minded group who bring pleasure to lonely older folk. The personal satisfaction I get from volunteering is immense and I’d recommend it to anyone.”
If you are inspired to volunteer for a few hours a week, month or year, find out about opportunities on the NCVO website.
