Facebook announced its latest change to its news feed algorithm this week, prompting a range of mixed emotions from agencies and influencers.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, declared that the new algorithm will prioritise posts that encourage meaningful interactions between people and that content will be prioritised, with posts from friends and family to appear over public content.
Although the new move has shocked many, it shouldn’t be feared. The new algorithm opens the door for businesses to realign their social strategies with emphasis now being put on what makes their followers tick and what engages them, rather than focusing on spreading the word about their business and its services.
So what can you do to make sure your business is not lost in the news feed?
CJAM’s Social Media Manager Courtney Hicks explains: “Facebook’s update is aimed at improving the experience for its users and will encourage more meaningful interaction between people.
“In the short-term, encourage your followers to add their business page to their see first feature. This ensures your content gets prioritised into timelines.
“Use Facebook Live. Live videos on average get six times as many interactions as regular videos and set up Facebook groups, with all your followers linked to one group, to provide a news feed which your fans will see.”
She adds: “Be aware of what content you’re posting on Facebook – ensure it is meaningful and keeps your brand values. This might involve posting less on the social platform. Get to grips with Facebook advertising and use it for raising awareness about promotions, events and offers.”
