The UK’s first ever Small Business Saturday takes place this Saturday, 7th December 2013. Started in the US by American Express in 2010, the tradition is a means of encouraging people to shop in local, independent businesses across the country. The UK campaign has been delivered entirely by individuals and organisations who have given their time and expertise for free.
On 7th December, a third of councils will be putting on events in town centres, while advice for local and independent retailers can be downloaded at www.smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com. Entrepreneur Sarah Willingham is also supporting the day and has created a series of short films about marketing, merchandising, partnerships and loyalty to help small business owners.
“Small businesses are the lifeblood of the UK economy and Small Business Saturday is a chance for everyone to get behind our small firms,” said Enterprise and Skills Minister Matthew Hancock.
